Teamviewer VPN: How it Works

A secure data channel or virtual point-to-point access is created between the host (host) and the client (server). After the connection is established, remote data is sent and received, but at the same time, the level of protection remains unchanged, as if the transfer takes place within the same network location. Everyone who prefers to use the Teamviewer VPN knows that this is the best protection against information interception.

You can safely transfer any data with the VPN in 2019, since a remote connection is created with selected IP addresses, to which the program assigns a unique identifier.

Using the VPN

After connecting the virtual private network and connecting to the remote computer, a dialog box similar to this will open (the design may change over time, but the essence is the same):

If there are several connections, you can select the necessary one from the drop-down list of active attachments. Details and available actions for this connection are displayed in a dialog box. In the virtual private network, the setup must be completed on both sides. To stop the connection, click the “Close Connection” button. How to remove the virtual private network then? Just like other programs.

The “Status” area shows the IP addresses selected by the program on both computers. Once assigned, this address will remain unchanged. However, a VPN is not like a standard proxy server used for private access to the Internet. The service is more similar to VLAN because in the platform installing the virtual private network driver causes devices to be placed on a virtual private network, and it is believed that they are in the same location. The amount of data transferred is shown below.

A file-sharing button opens Windows Explorer, giving you access to a remote file system. The Windows Firewall continues to work, but you need to know in the case of the virtual private network this will not prevent an unauthorized start. Uncontrolled use of the program can be limited by using the Cisco ASA. You can view the contents of folders and delete, copy or transfer files as needed. Please note that authentication will be required on the remote computer.

The test ping button sends a request to the remote computer. This allows you to check whether the connection is successful and what is its speed.

The program is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Chrome OS and Linux, and it is also preferred to use it in windows server. If you decide to configure VPN in this way, we recommend downloading the latest version of the platform, and on the official page of the developer, you will find the knowledge base. To prevent the installation of the virtual private network driver error, it is recommended to altogether disable the antivirus.
